This is one of those moments that quietly changes things.
Prof. Sudipta Roy has joined Gentrac Labs as our Chief Scientist (AI & Data Science). Sudipta is an Associate Professor at Jio Institute, where he leads research at the intersection of medical imaging, deep learning, and clinical AI deployment. He is a World’s Top 2% Cited Scientist (Scopus, 2023–2025), holds an h-index of 42, and has published across IEEE TMI, Cell, EBioMedicine-Lancet, NeurIPS, CVPR, and MICCAI- 60+ papers in all. He completed his postdoctoral research in medical imaging AI at Washington University in St. Louis.
Sudipta’s specialisms are not incidental to what we’re building. Domain generalisation, distribution shift detection, self-supervised learning, and uncertainty-aware deep learning for clinical deployment- these are precisely the hard problems at the heart of Gentrac Labs.
We are building non-invasive, clinically validated- screening and diagnostic tool that run on smartphones. The central technical challenge is that every smartphone camera sees differently, our deterministic characterization database normalises variations across devices, enabling AI models to work reliably across hundreds of budget smartphones – a distribution shift problem, a domain generalisation problem and exactly what Sudipta has already solved.
The validated smartphone digital diagnostic in a health worker’s hand is the clinical infrastructure of the future. That’s what we’re building. And now we’re building it with one of the best in the world.
Welcome, Prof. Roy.
Gentrac Labs is developing SaMD for non-invasive clinical screening on smartphone. We are currently raising our seed round.
